Now that we see each other less often, our common communication tools and tech seem especially lackluster. They're not great at capturing the emotional component of interaction or the narrative arc of work.
Worse, many people are finding it harder to connect with their organizations, their colleagues, and the broader purpose behind their working hours.
Organizational stories take many forms, including:
Stories link the past-present-future to help drive our work forward. They help us see and make sense of trends. They make room for perspective, diverse voices, and nuance in the interpretation and application of work. And stories are a platform for reflection and learning, allowing us to grow ourselves and our orgs.
We've got spreadsheets & charts, budgets, presentations, documents, messaging channels, email, calendars, etc, - but little to help us knit them together.
What tools help us scan and sense the organization, to build of it the stories that are so vital to knowledge, expression, and creativity?
It's a module in my organizational operating system to help people capture and synthesize story fragments, build stories around them, and share them throughout the org.
I'm looking for a few people kind enough to test it out - to find its sweet spots and its breaking points. If you know of anyone who uses org stories in their work, please share this article with them!
Here's a demo of the current prototype to get a better sense of its functionality:
